Nago Workshop
This page and kiln site are constantly under construction. This year we had five firings, four of which did not fire to my expectations. I was told that reaching 1250C in Okinawa would be "impossible" due to the poor air pressure and lack of good pine. A few adjustments to the kiln and the firing was beautiful! The main repair points were breaking down the front third of the kiln, using the extra bricks to extend the chimney and to insulate the interior by lining the unused space, and most important was digging a trench under the new fire box to allow ample air from below. The last fire went so well that Im confident I can build a kiln like this anywhere.

With that in mind, it's quite possible that the October 2011 firing will be the last for this kiln site. Kevin Maher said it best, but with the enduring economic slump of Japan and a $US 309 Billion estimated recovery cost from the latest disasters, it behooves me to take the project elsewhere. China is the current goal, but I am open to suggestions for relocation. i.e. If you have land, a motivated crew, a kiln to build...in India...
